A view over Rye

A bright and spacious luxury en-suite room

When you walk into Tilling at Red Cottage, the first thing you’ll notice about your accommodation is the lovely view of the town with the church of St Mary’s atop Rye’s iconic profile. And it is precisely because of the view that we decided to call the room ‘Tilling’.

‘Tilling on Sea’ was the setting for E.F. Benson’s humorous and charming novels featuring the feuding grande dames of social one upmanship, Mapp and Lucia. Benson based this town on Rye where he lived and was mayor from 1934 to 1937 and the name was derived from the River Tillingham that flows just behind the Red Cottage B&B.

Bright and spacious, Tilling provides you with all the facilities you’d expect from a luxury en-suite including top-end toiletries and a wonderful choice of refreshments. There’s even a small fridge for your fresh milk and filtered water.
